01/03/07 Red House Win St. David's Day Eisteddfodd

Congratulations to Red House who won this year's School Eisteddfod. The afternoon of St. David's Day was spent listening to drama, musical performance, recitals and presentations of class winners for the various Eisteddfod competitions.
Special congratulations to Nursery pupils who made the wonderful Welsh Dragon in our picture.

Snow Disruption Affects Llynfi Valley Schools

All schools in the Llynfi Valley (including Cwmfelin) were closed on Thursday 8th February due to the bad weather. Every school also closed at lunchtime on Friday 9th February due to the unexpected further snowfall. It looks like everything will be back to normal on Monday!
 
07/02/07 Urdd National Finals Results

Once again congratulations to A. Rees who came 3rd in the Individual Gymnastic section. Our group team also performed well. Congratulations to our fellow Maesteg schools who won the trios section (Plasnewydd) and the groups section (Ysgol Cynwyd Sant.)
 
02/02/07 Netball / Rugby Festivals
The Netball 'A' team recorded a win and a draw, whilst the 'B' team lost two games.
The Rugby 'A' team's excellent season continued as they won every game and the 'B' team showed great improvement in their second festival, also winning both games played.
 
31/01/07 New Directions Football Tournament

Two Cwmfelin teams competed in the New Directions Tournament in Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Both teams showed excellent sportsmanship but unfortunately were unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.
 
19/01/07 Success in Urdd Regional Finals

Congratulations to A. Rees who finished first in the Individual category and to the group who although finished second were invited to the National Finals due to their excellent standard of performance. Good luck in Aberystwyth!

20/12/06 Black Cat Theatre Company

Once again, the Black Cat Theatre Company visited us as an end of term present from 'The Friends of Cwmfelin'. The Juniors enjoyed watching the pantomime 'Cinderella' and shouting loudly at every opportunity!!!

Christmas Concert @ Maesteg Town Hall

For two nights families, friends and invited guests were treated to items by instrumentalists, the school choir and both infant and junior key stages.
 
17/11/06 BBC Children in Need

We had a 'Mad Hat' day to raise money for the BBC Children in Need appeal. Pupils and staff wore various headwear and paid a donation for the privilege. Over £140 was raised!
 
16/11/06 Millennium Stadium Visit

The Dragon Rugby Club had a once in lifetime opportunity when they visited the Millennium Stadium to watch Wales' final training session before they played Canada on Friday 17th March.
A tremendous thank you to all at the Stadium and the Welsh management and players for making it such a special evening.
 
24/10/06 Harvest Assembly

Representatives of Bridgend People First were our special guests at our Harvest Assembly. As a thank you for their recent work with Classes 4, 5 and 6 on disability, they were presented with a harvest gift box. Later in the day, members of the pupil council accompanied Mrs. Hiley to Hafan Deg to deliver another harvest gift box to the residents.
 
17/10/06 Year 5 & 6 Take Part In Urdd Jambori

Mr. Davies took Classes 5 and 6 for a morning of Welsh fun at the Bridgend Jambori.
 
16/10/06 National Schools Film Week

We took part in this year's film week by learning about film characters and storyline in our classes. Classes 1 & 2 visited the Odeon Cinema in Bridgend and watched the wonderful 'Chicken Little'. Classes 3 & 4 also made the trip to the Odeon and they saw 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory'. 
Following their cinema visits, children created wonderful storyboards of the films, write exciting character reports and reviews of the films in the style of a true film critic! 
Our thanks go to the cinema staff and also the parent helpers who helped make the visits so successful.
 
12/10/06 Class 6 Assembly

Mrs. Phillips' Year 6 class took a school assembly today that informed all of the children, teachers and visitors about the Jewish festival of Passover.
We were all treated to a beautiful rendition of 'Silver and Gold' a song Year 6 have been learning as part of their music topic.
 
05/10/06 Class 3 Assembly

Mrs. Noble's Year 3 class took a school assembly today focusing on how important books are to everyone. The assembly coincided with the school bookfair and National Book Week.
The hall was full of parents, grandparents and visitors who enjoyed the assembly.
 
04/10/06 School Bookfair Opens for Business

Today saw the start of a two-day Scholastic Bookfair in the School Hall, with the theme of 'Pirates'.
As part of the National Bookweek Celebrations, pupils have been invited to dress as pirates this Friday, with each class having a 'Pirate of the day' winner.
 
28/09/06 Retirement Assembly for Mrs Lee

After 24 years as School Crossing Patrol, Cleaner, caretaker and kitchen assistant, Mrs. Lee has finally decided to hang up her red apron for good.
A special assembly was held in the school hall to mark the sad occasion, with pupils being joined by governors and two former headteachers to wish Mrs. Lee a happy retirement.
Cliff Richard fan Mrs. Lee was treated to a special version of one of her favourite songs, a special poem written by Year 6 and a performance of 'Farewell' by the Cwmfelin Choir Club.
